In an effort to increase seat belt usage and highlight the dangers of impaired driving during the heavily traveled summer months of July and August, the Nebraska State Patrol Troop E- Scottsbluff will conduct a special enforcement in Sheridan County.
Since 2014, there have been seven fatalities in Sheridan County all of which involved unrestrained drivers. Of those seven fatalities, four involved alcohol.
“We get a lot of vacation travel through Sheridan County in the summer months,” said Captain Jamey Balthazor, Commander Troop E- Scottsbluff. “This extra enforcement will allow us to increase our visibility. In doing so, we hope to reduce the potential for serious injury and fatality crashes.”
The special enforcement, which will run from July 8, through August 22, will include high visibility patrols and vehicle checks. A $7, 590 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS) will help fund the effort. ###
