Keep Chadron Beautiful is happy to announce we will be sponsoring a plastic bag recycling program with Chadron Head Start, Scribbles Preschool and the Child Development Center. Preschoolers have from now until Earth Day (April 22), to collect five hundred pounds of plastic bags and over wrap. That is approximately 40,500 bags. If the goal is met, Trex will donate a high-performance composite bench to the community.
Items accepted for collection are plastic grocery, produce, clean Ziploc, bread and cereal bags, dry cleaning, newspaper bags, and heat pellet bags. Over wrap from products like toilet paper, paper towels, cases of water, bubble wrap and furniture wrap are also accepted. All plastic needs to be clean and dry.
Plastic bags can be sent to school with preschool students or drop off in the outdoor bin at 153 Bordeaux (between the Blaine and American Legion), or during business hours at Northwest Community Action, or the Senior Center. If you have any questions, please contact Keep Chadron Beautiful.
Each month, stores in Chadron use over 150,000 plastic bags. Keep Chadron Beautiful hopes to raise awareness and educate our community members and the preschoolers about the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.
Plastic bags can always be returned to Wal-mart and Safeway for recycling. Bins are located inside the stores. Plastic bags should never be placed in the blue SWANN recycling dumpsters.
