FREMONT, Neb. (AP) – Costco Wholesale Corp. is seeking rezoning and annexation of some property south of Fremont where it can locate a chicken processing plant.
The Greater Fremont Development Council said in a news release Monday that the land is part of an industrial tract south of Cloverly Road.
Costco and a Georgia company, Lincoln Premium Poultry, have been checking for a new site in the area and elsewhere since the Nickerson Village Board voted last month against a plan that would have let the plant locate between Nickerson and Fremont.
Opponents have raised concerns about the plant’s potential impact on schools, housing and roads. The development council has said the plant would create 1,100 new jobs and provide other financial benefits to the area.
